The goal of the ITCO is to establish a cultural platform based on a network-observatory, which is dedicated entirely to the problem of thyroid nodular disorders and thyroid cancer and promotes interaction between all those involved in patient care, coordination, communication, research and management related to these diseases.
From the convergence of experience and knowledge, the network aims to determine the dimensions of a phenomenon (increase of incidence of thyroid carcinomas, which have tripled, especially in women, in the past decade), identify their causes, spread strategies of treatment and optimal and standardized surveillance, in conformity with the scientific evidence of the international guidelines but also in the light of the different situations in local care.
The priority objective is to provide clinical-epidemiological, socio-health, economic-health and health policy data to the political deciders and the Italian health authorities to improve the quality of life of people with thyroid tumours.
